Woltmannweg Suburban Colony position: - south rim of the city, see city map cut out (the red cross is right inside the area) - surrounded by: Woltmannweg - Blochmannstraße - Geitnerweg - Lichterfelder Straße - Osdorfer Straße - The Scheelestraße (in the middle of the area) has a big place, where (and at some entrances at the rim) a very helpful public map of the area is positioned. public transport: - unfortunately not optimal: from S-Bahn-station "Osdorfer Strasse" (this is the station at the Noth-South-Line in direction to Lichterfelde-Süd) it takes a foot-walk ~10 min. in south direction along Osdorfer Straße - OR: Bus-line 186 up to 3rd station Mercatorweg. More bus-lines around (284, 380). urban design: - Very large carfree area inside. Very calm, because very large suburban colony for 5,000 people; a real children`s paradise - Area has ~7.3 hectares; ~500-650 meters x 130 meters - most dwellings in public social building programme, additional some property dwellings. All built in the beginning of the 80ties by GSW with public futherance/advancement. - 4-6 story-achitecture influenced by famous german architect Hans Scharoun (builder of Berlin`s Philharmonia), style of urban design is his idea of "urban city landscape" (Stadtlandschaft), style of architecture is partly / rudimentary "organic architecture" with some ecological elements (green roofs) mobility concept: - Optically carfree (see definitions): - Parking at the rim, and underground (about 1/3 of the site), therefore very high building costs; ~0,5 parking places per dwelling. - Inside no private traffic allowed and possible (barriers at the entrances, keys only for public services and the caretaker for special cases). diese Seite auf deutsch definition optically carfree: car parking and motorised traffic is not allowed inside the quarter (with exceptions for the usual special cases like emergencies, furniture transports etc). Private parking is possible only at the rim and/or in underground garages. There is a conventional number of parking places, so there exist no further regulations (like "carfree contracts" etc) on car ownership. exhibition:
