There
are hundreds of isles at the croatian coast. On 66 of them are living people,

Quotes
ref a few islands see below, here a quote with general information:
"But
it is hard to avoid fossil fuels even in and around carfree islands. Pretty
much every household on all of the islands mentioned here owns a boat powered
by oil or gasoline, while 50 years ago everybody still used sails. Small
tractors and agricultural machines, bicycles and light motorbikes are also
common, and any work is unimaginable without the popular hand-cart, here
called karoca. As Olib shows, electric golf vehicles
are a recent fashion on some of the islands.
Often, no one even notices the absence of cars when entering the worlds
of these islands, not even the tourists. Carfree is very natural here.
And it is also worth pointing out that many of the island inhabitants don't
stay on the mainland for too long - they are soon stressed by the nervous
traffic in the narrow streets of Dalmatian towns." (Article by Ivan Gregov)

archipelago are counted among the most beautiful in the Adriatic. Historic
architecture, year-round vegetation (Elafiti is known as the "Green Garden
of Dubrovnik"), and the absence of cars makes the islands pleasant for
visitors. The Elafiti islands are too small for roads, so cars were never

reports (Nov. 2005): "The situation on Olib isn't so clear. When older
people returned from working in the USA, they brought electric cars. Slowly,
other inhabitants started to bring their cars from the mainland, which
are now only allowed to park at the main dock. (The cars still end up spreading
all over the island.) Inhabitants cannot agree on whether to legalise cars

Carbusters

are carfree. Many of the island's inhabitants work in the nearby mainland
town of Sibenik, so instead of a bus, a ship serves the islands around
eight times per day. Although the ferry is 50 years old, it is cheap and

Carbusters
reports (Nov. 2005): "Zlarin has a network of concrete roads for walking
and cycling, but which also makes the island perfect for populating with
cars, once a weekly car-ferry is added to the daily routes. The islanders
decided to hold a referendum on allowing cars, and they voted against.
Twenty of the 250 inhabitants own a car, which they have to leave on the
